If you're interested in skiing and winter sports, the period from December to March is ideal. However, keep in mind that this is also the high tourist season. December to March: this is the best time to visit the southern part of Australia, as it’s full summer.
May to October: this is the dry season, ad even if temperatures are a bit lower, this is the best time to visit Queensland and the great barrier reef.
